Priority management algorithm for Public Transport Vehicles (VTC)

The priority management algorithm

Our traffic regulation experts have developed an algorithm which allows the most efficient management of traffic light priority for all types of Public Transport Vehicle (bus, BRT, Tramway, etc.). PRYO calculates the optimal duration of light phases every second, thus giving priority to VTCs while maximizing the green time of the other axes of the intersection. This algorithm is compatible with any type of intersection, from the simplest to the most complex.

With PRYO, the intersection becomes more fluid and Buses and Trams save travel time!

  • Takes into account several priority vehicle approaches simultaneously, for better responsiveness to the hazards of the route.
  • Reduces stops at VTC lights (up to 20%)
  • Reduces the time it takes for VTCs to cross traffic lights
  • Simplifies the programming of controllers, giving more autonomy and responsiveness to traffic operators.

A powerful algorithm, integrated into the GALLERY-S controller

PRYO allows optimal management of VTC priority by:

  • The use of objective criteria (minimization of waiting times, proportional distortion of the cycle, minimization of deviations from nominal durations).
  • A second-by-second calculation of the optimal solution, therefore very high responsiveness to the vagaries of the approaches.
  • Managing the transition of VTCs to a compatible phase, a specific phase or a combination of the two.
  • Taking into account approach times managed by loops, Diaser radio, V2X communication, etc.
  • Compliance with regulatory or functional constraints.
