THE V2X SOLUTION TO MANAGE PRIORITY TO TISSÉO BUSES

Thanks to V2X communication, Tisséo buses will switch to the green light

Tisséo, the operator of the Toulouse bus network, has launched an innovative experiment usually reserved for autonomous vehicles; this involves the installation of a V2X communication system. Buses from the Tisséo fleet that have become connected will be able to know exactly when they will arrive at the traffic light intersection which will give them the green light.

OPTIMIZATION AND COMFORT OF ROUTES FOR DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS

The primary objective of this project is to compare the current bus priority model, which is achieved via radio communication, with the V2X communication system.

This experiment therefore also makes it possible to test interoperability between V2X solutions from different manufacturers, but also to implement new information functionalities that this technology offers to bus drivers, such as:

Real-time feedback
- Taking into account the arrival of buses
- Status of approaching fire
- The duration of the fire phase

NEW TECHNOLOGIES FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT

The principle of this technology called V-2-X (Vehicle-To-Everything) is to equip traffic light intersections with a Roadside Unit (UBR) and, at the same time, to equip buses with Units Embedded in Vehicles. (UEV) to allow the exchange/communication of V2X messages between the bus and the light controller, which makes it possible to grant priority to buses at each intersection.

This experiment takes place in Toulouse, at 6 crossroads and 6 buses on the Airport/City Center line. FARECO, a subsidiary of the Fayat Group, is one of two companies selected by Tisséo Collectivités to equip its network with this technology. FARECO, for its part, therefore equips 3 traffic light intersections with its UBR NEXO as well as 3 buses with its UEVs.
